Even More About the Ingredients
Regarding the sausage specifically, Italian sausage is typically used for a sausage pizza. This type of sausage is made with ground pork, spices, and seasonings, and it is available in both sweet and spicy varieties. While the spicy Italian sausage gives a bold and zesty flavor to the pizza, the sweet Italian sausage adds a mild and subtle taste. Both kinds of sausages work well on a pizza, so you can choose the type of sausage mixture that best suits your taste preferences. Finally, if you can’t find Italian sausage, get some ground pork and mix with Italian seasoning or other types of sausage, such as chicken sausage, bratwurst or chorizo, for a different flavor.

Substitutions
There are several types of dough that you can choose from. Make your own homemade dough or use store bought. Several choices include Neapolitan dough, a classic Italian dough is made with simple ingredients such as flour, water, yeast, and salt, and it is thin and crispy. It is traditionally used for Margherita and Marinara pizzas. Stuffed crust is the type of dough used for pizzas where the cheese is tucked into the edge of the dough before baking. That is what we call comfort food!
Regardless of the type of dough you choose, like a thick or thin crust pizza, let it rise and rest before using it to make your pizza, as this helps to develop the flavor and texture.
