Pumpkin pie spice is one of the quintessential flavors of fall. Although you can buy containers of this popular spice, it only takes a couple minutes to whip up your own using ingredients you probably already have on hand.
History of Irish Cream
In the early ’70’s a couple of guys from Gilbeys (a division of the International Distillers and Vitners – ID&V) were recruited to come up with a new drink to export out of Ireland. With Ireland producing more cream then they knew what to do with and also famed for having the best whiskey, Bailey’s Irish Cream came to be. One of the highest grossing liqueurs of all times, Irish Cream continues its popularity still today. It is the perfect ingredient for a pumpkin spice coffee.
Ingredients
- Irish Cream Liqueur
Homemade Whipped Cream ingredients:*
- 1 pint heavy whipping cream
Pumpkin Pie Spice:
- 3 tablespoons cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon ground ginger
- 1 tablespoon ground nutmeg
- 2 teaspoons ground allspice2 teaspoons ground cloves
Pumpkin Pie Spice Irish Coffee:
- 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
- 16 oz. freshly brewed hot coffee
- 2 oz. Irish whiskey
- additional pumpkin pie spice, for garnish
Extras
* substitute pre-made whipped cream, if preferred.
Equipment
- Large bowl
- Medium bowl
- Hand mixer or immersion blender
Instructions
- Blend 1 pint of heavy whipping cream, in a large bowl, with a hand mixer or immersion blender until it doubles in size and changes texture.
- Combine the pumpkin pie spice ingredients in a medium bowl and stir to combine. Set aside.
- Sprinkle fresh coffee grounds with one tablespoon pumpkin pie spice, before brewing, and gently shake to evenly combine the mixture.
- Brew spiced coffee grounds as usual.
- Pour 2 oz. Irish whiskey into each cup and top with 4 oz. of freshly brewed coffee.
- Top with whipped cream and sprinkle with additional pumpkin pie spice before serving. Enjoy!
