Mint Berry Sangria

Mint Berry Sangria is a refreshing and festive twist on the classic Spanish drink. This berry sangria recipe is made with white wine, mint, fresh berries and more sweet summer goodness. It’s the perfect summer cocktail for entertaining or enjoying on a warm day.

Origin of Sangria

Traditional sangria originated in Spain, and its name comes from the Spanish word for “blood.” The original sangria was made with red wine, fruit – especially blood oranges and other local specialties, and spices. It was a popular drink among the working class in Spain. Today, there are many different variations of sangria, but the classic recipe is still a favorite.

Ingredients + Variations

2 cups Fresh strawberries, sliced

1 cup Blueberries

1 cup Raspberries

2 Pears, sliced

¼ cup Fresh Mint leaves

1 Medium Lemon, thinly sliced

1 Bottle White Wine (we recommend Moscato d’Asti or a muscat wine)

2 cups Peach or Orange Juice

2 cups Sparkling Water, chilled

Alternatives

  • Use champagne instead of the white wine and sparkling water – we recommend a rosé.
  • Prefer red wine instead of a white wine sangria? Pinot noir and berries complement each other very well.
  • You can use club soda or ginger ale as the sparkling water.
  • Next time you’re looking for a cold summer drink, feel free to vary the ratio or types of berries, with an emphasis on your favorite. Prefer fresh blackberries over raspberries? Go for it! Whatever you decide to use, be sure to stick with fresh fruits.

Cooking Tips

  • Be sure to use fresh berries and fresh fruit juice whenever possible!

Serving

  • Serve the pitcher of sangria once chilled, providing ice cubes for your guests either in the glass or a bowl they can help themselves to. You don’t want ice cubes in the pitcher diluting the sangria as they melt.
  • Garnish with a slice of lemon, orange slices, three small berries on a cocktail pick or by slicing a strawberry halfway through to balance on the rim of the glass.

Storage Instructions

This delicious sangria sadly doesn’t store very well – it can lose its fizziness overnight.
