Melon Apple Sangria

If you’re looking for a cool refreshing beverage to serve on warm summer nights, this melon apple sangria is the perfect drink.

Fun fact: National Melon Day is August 14th, so why not celebrate?

This easy recipe makes the most of fresh summer fruits that are perfectly ripe at this time of year.

Origin of Sangria

Traditional sangria originated in Spain, and its name comes from the Spanish word for “blood.” The original sangria was made with red wine, fruit – especially blood oranges and other local specialties, and spices. It was a popular drink among the working class in Spain. Today, there are many different variations like this white sangria version, but the classic recipe is still a favorite.

Ingredients + Variations

1/4 melon – we recommend honeydew melon or seedless watermelons

1 bottle dry white wine such as Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc

3 tablespoons sugar

1-½ cup. prepared lemonade

1/4 cup white rum

1 tart apple such as a Granny Smith

1 lemon

10-12 leaves fresh mint

Substitutions

  • You can substitute the lemonade with orange juice or apple cider.
  • Lime instead of lemon works great.
  • Enhance the melon flavor with a dash of melon liqueur.
  • Avoiding refined sugar? Use maple syrup instead.

Add a little sparkle by using club soda, ginger ale or using a sparkling wine.

Pairs with

We recommend a crisp white wine over red wine to enhance the delicate melon flavor.

  • Chardonnay
  • Sauvignon Blanc
  • Moscato wine
  • Pinot grigio

Storage Instructions

Stores up to three days in an airtight container. Note: if you made it sparkle, it may lose some of the fizziness.
